Most kids have a lot of energy. And while I love my kids’ energy, I also love it when they expend that energy outside. Enter our current backyard setup!
It started when my husband bought some exercise rings to hang up in the backyard for himself. Of course the kids found them fun to swing and flip from. And of course I had immediate visions of them falling off and splitting their heads open on the concrete. But I liked that they were being adventurous, so off I went in search of some protective mats.
Enter We Sell Mats on Amazon. While I was initially deterred by the hefty price tag, I wanted quality (my kids are a little clutzy). I ordered one mat and loved it so much I ordered another to cover more ground. The mats are well-constructed and thick. They fold up easily and attach to each other with velcro strips (picture shows 2 mats side-by-side). At first I was very good about bringing them inside every night, but now I am not, and other than getting very dirty, they have held up extremely well. We have had ours for almost two years. **Tip: Don’t get a light color if intended for outdoor use.
The mats are also great for gymnastics, martial arts and exercise.
If you are interested in the rings as well, be sure to buy ones made out of plastic. We purchased wood ones the first time around, but those got moldy from being left outdoors.
The rings are not only fun to play on, but they have really helped with my kids’ upper body strength, and given that endless energy an outlet!
