I credit my husband with this find. Tired of listening to children’s music on repeat, he vowed to take charge of our kids’ musical education. Enter the Beat Bugs, a relatively new show on Netflix that follows five little bugs as they explore the big world that is their “backyard.” Each episode features a song by the Beatles, and a corresponding life lesson. It’s a win-win, and a show I even enjoy watching myself.
In a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, creator Josh Wakely said he had “memories of being young and wondering what it would be like to be in a yellow submarine, who Eleanor Rigby was or what it would be like for a song to go on forever and ever. That imagination was just preparing me to be an adult.” (Rolling Stone Magazine, Interview by Scott Porch, August 3, 2016).
We are big on imagination in our house, and thanks to Mr. Wakely, our kids will now ask for various Beatles songs by name, with a few Disney songs mixed in of course.
