Chugga Chugga Choo Choo | Newport Mesa Moms

If you have lived in the area for awhile now, chances are you have been to Goat Hill Junction Railroad.  If you haven’t, do yourself a favor and add it to your weekend plans.

Every third weekend of the month (weather permitting), the Orange County Model Engineers offer FREE rides to the public on their miniature trains (that means this weekend January 2oth and 21st).  It’s a hoot for adults and children alike.  Each trip lasts about 12 minutes and makes two loops of the park.  It is very well run and organized.  They take safety very seriously (I even got in trouble once for turning around to talk on the ride) and enforce the rule that children must be 31″ tall and able to walk in order to ride the train.

On some public ride days, you can also find food or treats for sale.  The trains are open from 10:00am – 3:30pm with lines being shorter in the morning.  All rides are FREE but donations do help keep the trains running.

Goat Hill Junction Railroad is located in Fairview Park, off of Placentia Avenue in Costa Mesa (2500 Placentia Avenue).  Click HERE to view the OCME website.

They also host birthday parties so click HERE if your little one is obsessed with trains.  Looking for a cute train ticket invitation?  Click HERE.  Need conductor hats, train whistles or bandanas, check out OrientalTrading.com or TrainParty.com.
