Five Ingredient Friday! Apple Dumplings compliments of Anna Gass | Newport Mesa Moms

Apple pie is great but sometimes, it’s nice to change things up and make something quick and easy.  So, in honor of Five Ingredient Friday, I bring you apple dumplings!  Five ingredients; pop them in an hour before dinner and you will have yourself a lovely, individual dessert.  Make it à la mode with some vanilla ice cream.  I won’t give you a hard time for adding a 6th ingredient to the recipe, because, let’s face it, everything is better à la mode.

FIF Apple Dumplings

4 apples of your choice, peeled and cored

½ cup AP flour

½ cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon cinnamon

1 large sheet frozen puff pastry, defrosted

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

In a medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar and cinnamon.  Roll each apple to cover with the mixture.

Roll out the puff pastry and cut into squares.  Place an apple in the center of each square and pull up the sides to cover the apple.  Pinch at the top to seal closed.

Place apples in the freezer for fifteen minutes to chill the pastry.  This will keep it from sliding down the apple.

Remove from the freezer and place on a cookie sheet.  Bake for 45 minutes to an hour, based on the size of the apple.

To check if they are done, slide a knife into the apple.  It should be very soft and slip right out.

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream or both!
