There are a lot of Christmas movies to choose from. Some true classics and some you just watch because well it’s Christmas and the kids like it. Personally I am a fan of How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the cartoon version of course) and Elf. But last year I added a third movie to round out my Top 3: How Murray Saved Christmas. We happened upon it last year solely because it came on after The Grinch. And we’ve watched it many times since. It’s hysterical. Mike Reiss, the Emmy-winning writer-producer of the Simpsons, brings you this animated Christmas special featuring a town of characters (think Santa, the Easter Bunny, April Fools, etc.), an over-zealous elf that accidentally brings down Santa, and the grumpy owner of the local cafe that subs in and saves Christmas.
With catchy tunes and a silly story, the kids will love it. But more importantly, us moms and dad’s won’t mind putting it on repeat. With smart jokes and off color comments, you will have a hard time staying straight-faced (Simpsons, remember). All of the adult jokes went right over my children’s heads (they are young), but if you have an older child you might want to watch it first and decide if the humor is appropriate. Don’t judge me, the show is based on a children’s book. 😉
While we’ve long since purchased the movie on itunes, NBC is showing the special on December 24th at 7:30/6:30c. If I were you, I’d set my DVR.
