I know many people who have grown up with the tradition of going to see a Tree Lighting of some sort, and while I thought it sounded nice, I had never been to one before I had kids. And let me just tell you, the look on their faces when the lights go on is priceless. So in an effort to save you time, and spread the joy, here is a list of local events for you (including the lighting of the menorah):

Tree lighting ceremony includes a performance by the Orange County School of the Arts, refreshments, and a special visit from Santa.

FASHION ISLAND’S HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH & SATURDAY NOVEMBER 17TH @ 6PM
Enjoy a 25-minute live musical show by The Young Americans, a visit from Santa, a magical snowfall, and, of course, the highly-anticipated lighting of the tree!

NEWPORT DUNES’ LIGHTING OF THE BAY
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23RD @ 3PM (to 8PM)
Enjoy live chorale performances, cookie decorating, holiday crafts and train rides. Santa Claus will take center stage at dusk (approx. 5:30pm) as he arrives by stand-up paddleboard and flips the magic switch to illuminate the bay with more than 50 electric Christmas trees and holiday decorations. An outdoor screening of a holiday movie will wrap up the evening with hot cocoa and cider. Additional food and bar concessions will be available for purchase.
