Spring is the perfect time to get outside, explore, and make memories with your family! From blooming gardens to hands-on festivals, our community is bursting with fun activities for everyone. Here are five fantastic local things to do this season.
1. Discovery Days at Centennial Farm
Open to the public on select days from 9am to noon, explore Centennial Farm at the OC Fair & Event Center. Tours are self-guided but the following activities are available: radish seed planting, chick education, oxen demonstration, crops education, and livestock interactions.
2. Imaginology
If you haven’t yet experienced Imaginology at the OC Fair and Event Center, make sure this is the year you attend. With the focus on STEAM Education and hands-on learning, there is no shortage of makeshops, demonstrations, competitions and activities for the whole family. Save the date: April 12th & 13th.
3. Community Easter Egg Hunts
The Easter Bunny will be busy in April. Check out the Mayor’s Egg Race in Newport Beach on April 12th, or Springfest in Costa Mesa on April 19. Don’t forget to bring your Easter Basket.
4. Butterfly and Hummingbird Gardens
The Butterfly and Hummingbird Gardens at the Shipley Nature Center are 2 of the 5 Waterwise Demonstration Gardens installed back in 2005. Visit this nature center in the heart of Huntington Beach and see what else you can find. The Environmental Nature Center (ENC) also features a butterfly garden. The ENC is open to the public on Saturday and Sundays. Keep in mind that butterflies are less active when the weather is cold or overcast. So wait for those sunny days.
4. Earth Day Celebrations
One of our favorite Earth Day Celebrations is held at the Back Bay and features hands-on arts and crafts, educational activities, and science discovery. Make sure you visit the OC Bird and Prey booth – such magnificent creatures. Save the date: April 26. Costa Mesa is also hosting an Earth Day Festival on April 26 and is featuring an Upcycle Art Contest.
