SUMMER 2019 Guide to Movies in the Park | Newport Mesa Moms

Mention Summer and a few things come to mind:  triple-digit temperatures, vacation, sleeping in AND Movies in the Park.  Newport Beach and Costa Mesa have quite the line-up with both new movies and a few older classics this SUMMER 2019.  Catch them all, or just your favorites, but we’ve listed them in one place just for you!

THE HOST

Argyros Plaza at Segerstrom Center for the Arts (Costa Mesa)

Enjoy FREE family fun this summer with the return of Movie Mondays on the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza! Catch a hit movie, try a cool activity, and grab a bite to eat at the all-new George’s Café as well as select food trucks. Or bring your own picnic dinner. Just don’t forget your beach chairs, blankets and popcorn!

Set-up begins at 5:30 p.m., with the movie starting at dusk (approximately 8 p.m.). Guests may bring their own snacks, chairs, blankets or picnics but tables, BBQs or large food set-ups will not be permitted, so we can have as many friends as possible join us. Food trucks will be on site for food purchases.

Closed captioning will be included at all showings!

JULY 8 | The Greatest Showman

Hugh Jackman stars as P. T. Barnum, a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became the worldwide sensation of Barnum & Bailey’s Circus and the birth of show business. Featuring award-winning music by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. PG, 105 minutes (2017)

JULY 15 | Mean Girls

Lindsey Lohan plays Cady Heron, who becomes a hit with The Plastics, the A-list girl clique at her new school—that is, until she makes the mistake of falling for Aaron Samuels, the ex-boyfriend of alpha Plastic Regina George (Rachel McAdams). PG-13, 97 minutes (2004)

JULY 22 | Anastasia

The young Anastasia tries to reunite with her royal grandmother and restore her family name while avoiding the ruthless Rasputin along the way. Featuring the voice talents of Meg Ryan, John Cusack and Christopher Lloyd. G, 94 minutes (1997)

JULY 29 | Dreamgirls

A trio of black female African-American soul singers cross over to the pop charts in the early 1960s, facing their own personal struggles along the way. Starring Beyoncé, Jamie Foxx, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Hudson and more. PG-13, 130 minutes (2006)

AUGUST 5 | Hook

In Hook, Captain Hook kidnaps Peter Pan’s children moving him to return to Neverland and reclaim his youthful spirit in order to challenge his old enemy and save his children. Starring Dustin Hoffman, Robin Williams and Julia Roberts.. PG, 142 minutes (1991)

FREE Family Event.  Bring your blanket or lawn chair to enjoy a movie and food trucks in the park.  Pre-show begins at 5:45pm.  Movie begins at dusk.

 

JUNE 28 | The LEGO Movie 2:  The Second Part

The citizens of Bricksburg face a dangerous new threat when LEGO DUPLO invaders from outer space start to wreck everything. It’s now up to Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to defeat the giant marauders and restore harmony to the LEGO universe. PG, 107 minutes (2019)

JULY 26 | Ralph Breaks the Internet

Video game bad guy Ralph and fellow misfit Vanellope von Schweetz must risk it all by traveling to the World Wide Web in search of a replacement part to save Vanellope’s video game, “Sugar Rush.”  In way over their heads, Ralph and Vanellope rely on the citizens of the internet to help navigate their way.  PG, 116 minutes (2018)

AUGUST 16 | Mary Poppins Returns

Single father Michael and his sister receive the surprise of a lifetime when Mary Poppins — the beloved nanny from their childhood — arrives to save the day and take the Banks family on a magical, fun-filled adventure.  PG, 130 minutes (2018)

THE HOST

Crystal Cove Conservancy

Enjoy some favorite historic films on the beach in Crystal Cove State Park’s Historic District.  Starting at 8pm, all movies will be shown on the beach outside “Beaches” Cottage #13 and are FREE to the public WITH a $15 State Park day-use fee.

Bring blankets, beach chairs, and a picnic to enjoy with your family.  There will also be a historic snack shop with popcorn and candy for sale.

JUNE 27 | The Little Mermaid

Ariel, a mermaid, is fascinated with life on land, and during one of her visits to the surface, she falls for a human prince. Determined to be with her new love, Ariel makes a dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula to become human for three days. G, 83 minutes (1989)

JULY 25 | Dr. Strangelove

President Muffley (Peter Sellers) and his advisers (George C. Scott, Keenan Wynn) man the Pentagon war room, as planes with bombs head toward Moscow. PG, 95 minutes (1964)

AUGUST 8 | Sabrina

The sons (Humphrey Bogart, William Holden) of a Long Island tycoon become romantic rivals for the chauffeur’s daughter (Audrey Hepburn). 113 minutes (1954)

THE HOST

City of Newport Beach (Various Parks)

Bring lawn chairs or a blanket/towel to sit on to enjoy a movie in the park.  FREE family event.  Food will be available for purchase. Free candy, popcorn and activities.  Events begin around 6:00 or 7:00pm (varies), with movies starting at dusk.

 

JULY 19 | The LEGO Movie 2:  The Second Part
