The Importance of Buying Native Plants: Sale at the ENC - Newport Mesa Moms

This Sunday, November 12th from 9am-3pm the Environmental Nature Center is hosting their Fall Native Plant Sale.  We all know maintaining a beautiful backyard is time-consuming and expensive.  Paying attention to what you plant will do wonders for your garden and your pocketbook.  We learned first hand that growing non-native milkweed (opps – we didn’t know) has a detrimental effect on monarch butterflies.  Here is an interesting article on milkweed, monarchs and migration from Monarch Joint Venture if you are interested.  Or just stop by the ENC this weekend and they will set you up to save water, reduce the need for pesticides and fertilizers, and attract butterflies and birds when the time is right.

You should also consider purchasing an $85 rain barrel at the event from Rain Barrels Intl.  For each barrel sold the ENC will receive a $20 donation.  To guarantee their availability, pre-order your rain barrel HERE.
